One unique approach to reducing college campus sexual assault crime is utilizing bystanders to interrupt situations that look like sexual assaults. The bystander approach focuses on changing community attitudes and providing a specific role that a bystander would feel comfortable with (Cares et al, 2015). In one study bystanders were taught to observe behaviors that occur before and after sexual assault. For example, they were taught to observe an intoxicated person being lead into a bedroom by a group of people or reporting an incident of sexual assault that was told to them by a friend (Cares et al, 2015).
