In the story “By the Waters of Babylon,” we come across fascinating characters throughout the story as the protagonist John the son of a tribal priest explains his journey and strive for success as the story goes continues. The other character we come across in the story is John's Father who conducts the ceremony initiating his son to tribal to the tribal priesthood.However,on the other hand we meet John's Brothers who are the antagonists in the story.We can say this because in the story Johns Brothers are portrayed as the hunters.They are the antagonists in the story because they regularly have wars with their neighboring tribes ,and John usually refers to them as less advanced and more unfortunate .Finally, the Forest People are the Ignorant …show more content…
In the story, the main events in the story start off by introducing the main characters to us. In this case the main characters John and his father. We also learn that the Society and civilization all live in a tribe, most importantly Johns tribe are the “Hill People. "After that, we head into the rising action in the story where John sets out on his journey and decides to head East, and he asks God for guidance in his journey after crossing the immense river. Then, John enters the city and looks around at the destruction to glance at the burning that it had caused. Furthermore, in the climax, John has two options were for one he can die from the vision and accept denial by his people. On the other hand the second option is that John can return home and become accepted by his people, despite his defiance of the laws. So basically the climax is that John received his vision and realizes that the Gods were nothing more than the men who had the forceful technology and experimented too much on society.Moreover, the falling action is when John returns home and tells his father of his vision and about the city of the gods. We can terminate this in the text it states “I said, 'Father, they were men! I have been in the Place of the Gods and seen it! Now slay me, if it is the law- but still, I know they were men." "They were men. I remember the dead man's face. They were men who were here before us. We must build again.” Finally, we reach the resolution where John realizes that the Gods were just people like them. From here John returns back home and is on a commitment to bring a group of men back to the place of the Gods to
