I. Introduction A. Now, feminism is a very important issue that commendably changes the lives of girls everywhere. However, I do not call myself a feminist because, in this technology driven age, Buzzfeed represents feminism. I can’t physically throw up in my mouth, but… B. I have a vested interest in making feminism work. I have impartially judged whether or not I would like to take part in the feminism movement and have done a lot of outside research on what feminism is. So I have seen the effects of Buzzfeed firsthand and am an authority on what works and what doesn’t. C. To inform the Audience about why Buzzfeed is harming feminism with: 1. Buzzfeed repeatedly and childishly acts retalitarily to actions against women a. responds to sexualitazion of women in media by making a hot guys newsletter 2. They are very passive and mild on issues they claim to find important 3. There is a general feeling of smugness, of better than you-ness. This leads to people thinking you’re a jerk B. Their platform 1. The format of a typical Buzzfeed “article” is very short sentences with many humorous pop culture references thrown in, probably listed numerically and separated by a gif or image—in short, made to be kimmable and easily glanced over 2. Buzzfeed is not meant to be a feminist site—it’s a industry—it spans 3 continents and has a huge fan base—there’s a reason its stock is 3. all of this makes it very hard for people to take Buzzfeed seriously and when to treat it like an entertainment site C. Their hypocritical statements 1. It makes their argument obviously biased, leading to people’s impression of feminism to embrace only what makes them look good 2. It invalidates their claims of the world being unfair by themselves being unfair 3. It ruins their credibility and makes them an untrustworthy source
