What would it be like today of the mass media? The newspapers and television news were the biggest form of media. However, the features of the media industry have been changed and the previous mass media also has been replaced. Two factors to explain the reason why the media industry is undergoing rapid changes are the development of Internet and mobile devices. Internet newspaper is showing rapid growth, because it overcomes a weakness that subscribers have to wait news until it published of traditional newspaper. Besides, the advent of mobile devices such as smartphones or table PC contributes to the changes. First of all, in the case of Buzzfeed, it is one of a pioneer of new media industry and shows different formatting from old media. The existing newspapers mainly deal with rather serious subjects such as social or political issues and progress the way that doing an in-depth analysis. Of course, Buzzfeed handle important issues in the same way, but it also engage in light and informational news such as” 9 Amazing Ways To Up Your Salad Dressing Game or 5 Vintage Cocktail You Need To Be Drinking”. Moreover, it also provides short videos such as “When You’re On A Diet But You Love Food Too Much.” It is difficult to find these articles and videos in the old media. These contents contribute to attract young generation, who has less interests in social issues then previous generation. In addition, the customers can catch diverse substances in one related article. Patrick Kerins, a board member who led the investment of New Enterprise Associate, said, “We think BuzzFeed will be one of the great media companies of the next decade” (Ashley McCollum, 2013). The most unique characteristic of Vox is its Contents Management System, called Chorus. Contents Management System is software, which makes ways to write articles of journalists. Chorus is regarded innovative system, which “enables the creation, distribution and measurement” of branched content and provides “detailed data to ensure this content reaches the right audiences, in the right formats, at the right time” (Michael Sebastian, 2015). With the advent of this technology, it contributes to reduce time to collect information, make format and edit in writing articles. As a result, journalists are able to write articles easier and faster than the past. Besides, on a customer level, the technology changes pattern of the customers in accessing information. To find related information, they had to search it themselves among many media in the past. However, they can grasp diverse associated materials through just one clicking.
