Butterfield Secondary is a co-ed public high school in Butterfield, Minnesota. It's part of the Butterfield Public School District. About 100 pupils are enrolled and the student-to-teacher ratio is 14:1. The gender division is 52 percent female and 48 percent male. BS holds classes for pupils in grades 7 through 12. The results of state assessments show 52 percent of students are proficient in English and 25 percent are proficient in Mathematics. BS has an 80 percent graduation rate.

BS has a full athletic program with varsity team sports for both boys and girls. Teams are called the Wolverines and school colors are silver and maroon. Boys varsity teams are in basketball, football, wrestling, tennis, and baseball. Girls' varsity teams are

Graduation from BS requires 22.1 credits in English/Language Arts, Arts, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, and Health. Prospective graduates must also take and pass required Graduation Assessments. Beyond traditional classroom instruction, there are various ways to earn credits. Advanced Placement coursework is available for pupils who qualify. Credits may also be gained by taking the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). Students can participate in career pathways programs. Pathways are occupation groups in a career cluster. Pathway programs include Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields,Marketing, Law, Information Technology, Arts, and Education.

Extracurricular activities are encouraged at BS as a means of developing leadership and teamwork skills. Extracurricular activities are a privilege rather than a right, and all pupils must meet and maintain academic, conduct, and attendance standards to take part. There are a number of clubs and organizations open to BS pupils. Some of these are National Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook staff, and school newspaper
