Butterfield Secondary is a co-ed public high school in Butterfield, Minnesota. It's part of the Butterfield Public School District. About 100 pupils are enrolled and the student-to-teacher ratio is 14:1. The gender division is 52 percent female and 48 percent male. BS holds classes for pupils in grades 7 through 12. The results of state assessments show 52 percent of students are proficient in English and 25 percent are proficient in Mathematics. BS has an 80 percent graduation rate.

Students can participate in career pathways programs. Pathways are occupation groups in a career cluster. Pathway programs include Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields,Marketing, Law, Information Technology, Arts, and Education.
Extracurricular activities are encouraged at BS as a means of developing leadership and teamwork skills. Extracurricular activities are a privilege rather than a right, and all pupils must meet and maintain academic, conduct, and attendance standards to take part.
