After extensive research, a man named James Clerk Maxwell found that one specific group of electromagnetic waves was the cause of visible light, or the cause of color. Maxwell also identified …show more content…
Every type of electromagnetic radiation travels at the speed of light (186,282 miles per second) through a vacuum. Everything on the electromagnetic spectrum is at a different wavelength. Only a small portion of the spectrum is visible light. Of that light, violet’s wavelength is the shortest (using the most energy), and red’s wavelength is the longest (using less energy).
As many people know, red, yellow, and blue are the primary colors. That is true, but only when talking about colors as in paint or markers. When talking about colors and how they are made with light, the real primary colors are red, green, and blue. When you mix colors, as in paints, you will never find a way to make yellow from the colors you have. But when you mix colors, as in light, you can make yellow by mixing red and green. When you mix red green and blue, you make white. For some reason, people have certain things that they correspond with different colors or letters, many times these things are the same between multiple people. For example, in a survey, most people said “A” was red; “B” was blue; “E,” “F,” and “G” were green; “P” was pink; “R” was red; “V” was violet; and “Y” was yellow. Some of those letters match the first letter in the color name, but some do not. Most of these colors have only been chosen because of someone’s past
