Ebenezer Scrooge does not understand or know what the true meaning of business is. He thinks that business is only about money. In a Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens shows that one’s business in life is changing the way Scrooge takes care of others, through the experiences of the three ghosts. While the ghosts help Scrooge through his unbelievable life, Ebenezer Scrooge becomes merrier from being mean. Scrooge’s definition of a man’s “business” in Stave 1 and its impact on Scrooge was money. His impact on money is keeping his money, and not celebrating Christmas. In the text it states, “What’s Christmastime to you, but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself, a time for balancing your books.” (5) This supports the topic sentence by showing that Scrooge thinks business is about money and having money. Another piece of evidence that was in the text is about money during Christmas time it states, “If I could work my will, with Merry Christmas on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart.” (6). In the text it states, “There was nothing very cheerful and the climate or the town and yet there was an air, of cheerfulness abroad.” (60). This supports the topic sentence by showing that Scrooge was cheerful while he was taking care of others, especially Tiny Tim. When Tiny Tim was hurt, Scrooge carried him around all happy, cheerful and joyful. Another piece of evidence that was found was, “Scrooge hung his head to hear his own words quoted by the Spirit, it was overcome with penitence and grief.” (71).
