After the Civil War, America as a nation was in bad shape. However during this time businesses were opening up left and right, starting the Industrial Revolution. Several large businesses gained their fame and fortune during this era by using the resources around them to gain wealth quickly and effectively. During this time there were many businesses owners taking advantage of the workers under them, leaving them with long, grueling, hour days and with only a measly wage to show for their hard work. The workers did not find it fair that they were being taken advantaged of and grouped together, creating the labor unions.
