Diversity: Transgender in Today's Business Companies
Transgender is a general term for people whose gender identity or gender expression is not in line with what is normally associated with the sex to which they were assigned at birth (Understanding The Transgender Community, http://www.hrc.org/resources/entry/understanding-the-transgender-community).
Gender identity is an individual's internal sense of being male, female or otherwise. Gender expression, on the other hand, is more about the way an individual carries themselves through behavior, clothing, hairstyles, walking style or the way they speak that tells of their gender identity. A small a number as that may be, it is important that public awareness about transgender people need to be increased to combat any bad notions the public may have towards them. This will help prevent any kind of discrimination to which transgender are commonly subjected.
Transgender inclusion in places of work has become an issue of global concern. Awareness on transgender persons has increased over the years. However, transgender people sometime still face discrimination at their places of work. It is important that companies be transgender inclusive (Transgender Inclusion In The Workplace: Recommended Policies and Practices, http://www.hrc.org/resources/entry/transgender-inclusion-in-the-workplace-recommended-policies-and-practices) for the following reasons:

Dress codes should not be applied to off-duty conduct.
• Benefits policy: All employees, transgender and gender-conforming alike, are entitled to equal benefits.
• Diversity and inclusion policy: An employer should make it clear that transgender workers ought to be included in the company's affinity and all other programs pertaining the company.
• Recruitment and selection policy: Transgender people should be accorded an equal opportunity when recruiting a labor force.
• Provisions: Employers should provide additional restroom options for the employees to choose from. Transgender employees should be allowed to use whichever washrooms that correspond to their gender.
• Adoption of anti-discrimination policies to be used at work: The employer needs to communicate with all employees about what kind of behavior is expected at the workplace with regard to discrimination and clearly stipulating penalties for violating the
