Uber Technologies Inc. was officially founded March of 2009 in San Francisco, CA. Prior to their official founding, Garrett Camp started to work on the prototype design features of the iPhone application. However, Garrett had just become a CEO once again in his organization, StumbleUpon, and Uber ending up being just a side project. Furthermore, in mid-2009, Garrett Camp convinced Travis Kalanick to increase his involvement in Uber, and by that summer, Travis was named Uber’s Chief Incubator. In that role, Travis was, according to himself in a blog posted on Uber’s website called “Uber’s Founding”, on December 22nd, 2010, “to temporarily run Uber, get the product to prototype, and find a General Manager to run the operation full time and generally …show more content…
Travis dropped out of the University of California, Los Angeles in 1998 to help create an organization called Scour Inc. Scour Inc is a multimedia search engine and a peer-to-peer sharing service. Interestingly, according to P.J Huffstutter, in his article “Scour Files for Bankruptcy Protection, written on October 13th, 2000, in the Los Angeles Times, Scour Inc. declared bankruptcy in 2000 due to numerous lawsuits around the notion of copyright infringement (Huffstutter). However, this did not stop Travis Kalanick from innovating new ideas. In 2001, with the same engineering team from Scour, Travis Kalanick launched a new organization called Red Swoosh. This organization was extremely similar to that of Scour, as it was another peer-to-peer file sharing organization. The largest difference between Scour and Red Swoosh is that Red Swoosh allowed for the file transfer of music and video files. According to Michael Arrington, of Techcrunch, in his article, “Payday for Red Swoosh: $15 million from Akamai” written on April 12th, 2007, on April 12th, 2007, “Akamai Technologies, Inc. bought out Red Swoosh for over $15 million …show more content…
After lots of analyzing and research, Camp and Kalanick knew they had to develop a ridesharing business that was fast and efficient to differentiate themselves from future competitors and the already established taxi industry.
The two knew that technology had become a huge part of today’s society, so they built their business off of mobile technology in order to meet the current market. Mobile technology had already increasingly become a disruption in many industries, so they figured why not create a ridesharing service that relied solely on technology. In doing so, Uber leveraged mobile technology and heavily disrupted the already established taxi industry by providing a fast and reliable alternative for passengers.
Since its birth, Uber has continued to grow rapidly by staying up to date with the latest mobile technological advancements and improving the passenger’s experience. Uber took an outdated transportation system and modernized it by providing quick and reliable ride booking through GPS and mapping technology, along with transaction convenience and simplicity through mobile payments. Driver feedback was also implemented, which provides passengers with improved experiences and allows Uber to manage the quality of its

The picture may have been predictable but it is simple. The picture shows that Uber is important for this day and age and without it people would have to spend more money on taxis and cabs. Uber and Lyft was created for the simple fact that it would be easier for people to receive a ride in the middle of the night. It would be faster than a cab, especially in the middle of the night when you really need to get home from a party. It’s quite easy, you just have to put in your card information into the app, put in your address of where you are at and the address where you want to be dropped off at, send the message out, and that is it.…
