The bus boycott was able to affect multiple people in the movie, for example Odessa, Miriam, and Mary Catherine. Firstly Odessa, who is the maid of Thompsons was affected by the bus boycott because she could not get to work on the bus anymore and this caused her to walk to work, which made her show up late to the Thompsons multiple times. Although what the boycott really did to her was bring out a feeling of change and meaning as shown towards the end when she holds hands with everyone at the carpool, although they are in a corner with many people surrounding them they all unify and together they show support for one another not giving in and leaving the car pool. Mary Catherine is a very young girl at the time and in most of the movie she probably has no clue what is going on, but she is changed severely because of it. The bus boycott caused the carpools to organize and because many people were angry about the carpooling many men decided to take charge and try to disorganize the movement. In the mix of all of this towards the end when all the african american people are holding hands and singing, in the middle of them Miriam and Mary catherine are also present. At the time Mary probably does not know what is going on but later on she realizes that she was taking a stand for equal rights, and because she was exposed to people in this way she would probably grow up to be more empathetic than most because she was exposed to these types of movements at a young age. Miriam starts to drive for the carpool and she does this behind her husbands back. This is a very significant moment in the movie because its when Miriam jumps into the deep end and she is determined to try and help in any way she can. It's also significant because Miriam is put in danger because of it because a at the time a white woman who supported the boycott would be shunned or hated by many, she put herself in danger. This is very significant because it shows just how much Miriam was willing to do for a cause she believed in. This can express how although black people seem to be fighting alone there are courageous people who are not afraid of what might happen to them and choose to stand with them in hope of a change for the better. Finally, another example of a significant event in the movie was towards the end when people attempted to break up the carpool. This is one of the more important events in the movie because as as the members of the carpool hold hands and sing it shows that the color of someone's skin does not change anything. Everyone in the carpool have a common goal and are committed to it showing how it is possible to be able to coexist. The moment is very impactful because of the meaning it is able to express to the viewer, and that being that together as a union, not separated, change can and will
