Reflection On SPMT 600

Improved Essays
The fears that I had regarding SPMT 600 delayed my registering for this class for well over a year and in hindsight, I was so silly in doing so. My academic plan had another course listed as the first course which I was quite excited to take and when I realized it was not going to be available in the near future, with an incredible amount of hesitation, I pressed send and enrolled in this course. I was afraid that this would be heavy in statistics, which gave me a lot of problems in my undergraduate days. I have truly enjoyed this course and a little disappointed in myself for delaying taking this course but, if I put on my SPMT 600 hat and look at what I have learned from Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory, now was the right time to be in …show more content…
I wouldn’t describe it as a matter of not having substance and using fillers but more a matter of wanting things to look and feel nice. The exercise of writing a purpose statement has forced me to rethink that, to be efficient, cut out the extra words and thoughts and zero in what my intention is. A purpose statement needs to be clear, specific and informative (Creswell 2014), and I feel that I have begun to incorporate that into my thinking, writing and conversation which will benefit me in my personal, academic and professional …show more content…
As much as I enjoy independent work, I found the forums to be quite enjoyable. They provided an opportunity to get to know some of my classmates, recognize our similar interests as well as our differences. If it were not for Franklin’s posts, I would not have looked into CrossFit. He is a very good ambassador for the sport and his passion for it is clearly evident.
Brittany and I have a lot in common when it comes to our views on the importance of encouraging youth athletes to pursue multiple sports. Through her posts, I have been able to discover additional articles to research and even in my own readings, I think about how she would appreciate those articles as well.
In all honesty, there are no aspects of SPMT 600 that I did not enjoy. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I have enjoyed this experience. The only portion of this course that I found the least beneficial; and this does not reflect the content of this course, is the ethics section. I truly value ethics and I fully support the importance of it to research. Making Ethical Decisions is a required course for coaching certification in Canada and many of the same topics we discussed are similar or related to those required for conducting research. I personally found this topic to be a refresher but it is definitely valuable and needs to be included in this

After today’s class discussion, I was able to learn new and different ways to take data. It was interesting to see how similar and different recording data can be depending on the goal and disorder. For example, last semester I did not find it as hard to track data for my accent modification client. However, this semester I have changed the way I keep track of data during sessions. My client is working on basic age appropriate sounds mainly because she exhibits a lot of phonological processes.…

As an athlete, I began my journey in sports full of dedication, fire, and hopeful anticipation of what I could do on the football field and on the basketball court. Much of my life has been devoted to extracurricular activities such as sports and the comelec, which taught me hard lessons in ethics and values that have made me who I am today. I not only represented my school varsity, but also sports clubs outside of school, which led me to compete in several local and international tournaments. As well as my passion for sports, I grew into my passion for service; service for others and for my school, partaking in clubs and community service activities, each endeavor playing a role in the development of my abilities and expansion of my potential…

I can definitely say that this course so far is helping me increase my knowledge about ethics especially understanding the standards of behavior of what is morally right or wrong in various situations in order to solve a problem or make a specific decision. There are four different ethical lenses: Right/Responsibilities lens: is when the person does the right thing and fulfill their ethical responsibilities with careful care and concern for the other individual. This person is to be highly aware and self-managing as decisions are made. Relationship lens: this lens benefits the entire community or group by making sure all are treated with respect, fairness, and dignity. Results lens: this lens focuses on results and goals where the benefit of the individual action outweighs the cost.…

When I first started Crossfit, everything seemed foreign. Going to the gym left me feeling as if I had entered an entirely different dominion--one in which men and women became beasts, knowing only how grunt loudly while lifting heavy weights at incredible speeds. I started off frightened by the prospect of being isolated in such an unfamiliar setting, but as time progressed, my sense of detachment slowly dissipated. Outgoing as I am, I sought out ways to strike conversation with the “locals.” The first topic I found a mutual interest in was Star Wars; who knew such jock-like people could be such geeks like me?…

The course AFAS 160 D1 is my first online class, and until now I still felt lucky to choose this class as one of my general education classes, because it gave me a great opportunity and an eye-opening experience about learning the African American Culture which I have never learned before and also gave me a chance to learn online. Describing this course to someone else, I would say this class is interesting and if you want to learn this class well, you need to prepare the Voice Thread and read the book carefully. To be honest, making videos on Voice Thread gave me a unique experience. I still remembered the first time I made a video on Voice Thread how nervous I was, I was afraid to have different ideas with other students and worried if they disagreed with me what should I do?…

However, learning the contrast of the X and Y management theories was exceedingly practical and most enjoyable in comparison to all the other topics discussed. This class thoroughly taught me the different perspectives and benefits of each theory and that they are undoubtedly are essential in building a strong and effective foundation in management. It will not only be a challenge, but an enjoyable task taking on the personal challenge of merging the benefits of both theories. For example, not only rewarding good performances, but also motivating employees to work on their own and empowering them to make independent decisions that they can be proud to be a part of.…
