Burton Bought: A Short Story

Burton Bought was a normal Senior in a normal High school in a normal city but all was not ok. His perfect 4.0 gpa he had gotten the last 14 terms was not even a 3.5 like it should be for getting a 66% it was a 3.2 because he had an F. Now he felt like he had no purpose left. What was the point of all the good grades if he can not graduate because of the 66%. What was next he did not know, all he knew was that it would not be in that state. Burton was a nerdy extrovert, he had many friends, was popular, got good grades, and had time for baseball on the side. It was nearing the end of term and all his friends did not even need to ask they knew right away that he had a 4.0 just like he had had all those terms before. Kingsburgh, Handed them out a pop quiz that was four pages long. “Good luck to all of you” Kingsburgh noted as he sat down at his desk. And Burton was off the easiest quiz he thought he had taken all done in an hour. “Easiest quiz of my life” he said as he left and went home. The Next day he looked at his grade and saw a 65% “no” he screamed as he ran out the door to go to school. He rushes into his math class and demands to know what could have dropped his grade down to 65%. Oh that's simple Mr Kingsburgh said you flunked that and your grade plummeted. Fine but can I retake it to help my grade? The end of term is today. Ok let's do that Kingsburgh said as he pulled out an extra test and handed it to him and he got back to work as he did before. Burton Turned his paper back in and waits anxiously as his teacher graded it and put it into the grade book. “Only bumped your grade up to a 66% sorry no more Retakes” “A F” Burton Cried as he walked out of the class “what's the point anymore?!” As he said this he remembers the weapon in the bottom left drawer in his dad's dresser. “Well,” he noted “i won't have to deal with that 66% any
