Decision Support Systems In The Case Of Glaxo Wellcome

Decision Support System (DSS) is one of the type of information system which is designed to help the middle as well ashigh level management of an organization to make the required decisions. The main three components of DSS architecture are the database, models that enable sensitivity analysis, what if analysis, goal seeking analysis and risk analysis and a user interface. In the given case of Glaxo Wellcome, DSS has a played a very crucial role in the sense that it has helped to properly manage the logistics as well as the production of all the drugs which are produced by Glaxo.
Initially, when the two drugs Espirir and Retrovir that were discovered by Glaxo succeeded in treating some cases of AIDS, their demand increased drastically across the globe. Such a drastic increment in demand of those drugs reduced the amount of inventories of the two drugs in the various pharmacies. So, Glaxo was required to produce and ship them rapidly, but the accurate demand of the drugs, forecasting of shipments, and inventory levels was hard to estimate.
