Background
In the past there have been many studies that have examined the assigned tasks among nurses and the rate in which they become exhausted. One such study looked at the nursing shortage and the regard of high burnout levels and how they affect patient outcomes (Vahey, Aiken, Sloane, Clarke, Vargas, 2004). Research is important because this issue has the ability to substantially affect the population. Not only is it a safety issue, there is a nursing shortage because of the early retirements of the burnouts which will only increase the responsibilities of future nurses. The study measures include nurse surveys and questionaires where nurses will rate their exhaustion on a level of 1 to 10 and state how many patients they are in charge of per shift. The null hypothesis is there is a statistically significant correlation between nurse burnout’s and an their patient to nurse ratio (ho:ρ=0). The alternative hypothesis is no correlational relationship between an increase in patient to nurse ratio, and nurse burnout’s (hα:
