A burn is damage to the body tissues caused by heat, chemicals, electricity, sunlight or radiation. Burns are distinguished by skin damaged in which many affected cells die. Every burn is different depending on the cause and degree of the injury. Most people can recover from burns without serious health outcomes or issues. Serious burns requires medical care to prevent further complications or death. There are three main types of burns: first degree, second degree, and third degree. First degree being the least minor and third degree being the most serious. In fact, there is also such thing as a fourth degree burn, but is severe and less common than the main types of burns.

Each burn appears differently according to the degree of burn. 1st degree burns affects the top layer of skin, the signs and symptoms are redness, minor inflammation, and pain, also dry, peeling skin as the burn heals. 2nd degree burns are more serious since it doesn’t only affect the top layer of the skin but also beneath that. Signs and symptoms of a second-degree burn the skin will be extremely red and sore and blisters are present. Second degree burns get more serious once widely spread on face, hands, buttocks, groins, feet. Lastly, the most serious type of burn degree, 3rd degree burns causes the most damage, affecting every of the skin, can also get to the bloodstream, major organs and bones. The signs and symptoms of a third degree burn, the skin becomes dark brown, charred, raised and waxy. Third degree burns must receive immediate treatment or may result in …show more content…
If the burn is first degree, then the damaged layer of the skin peels away, revealing the healthy layer, and no scarring is present. If the burn is second degree, then blisters can be present, and the deconstruction of the epidermis and dermis will occur. Partial thickness should heal in 10-21 days and scarring will appear minimal without a skin graft. Full thickness will usually need skin grafting in order for it to heal properly. As for the third degree, every layer of the skin is damaged. The areas will appear leathery in texture after the burn, and it will not blanch if pressure is applied.
