Looking back on the accidents he has been involved in, Severyn realizes just how blessed he has been to have survived. He says, “I realize, you know, I have had all these chances to ruin my life...by God's grace He is keeping me alive.” While he is still in the process of physical therapy, Severyn is joyful and is at peace. He is a man of much dedication and perseverance. He does not back down at the difficulties he has faced, but rather, fights boldly to overcome them.
Ironically, while people might count car accidents as some of the most painful encounters in life, Severyn made an honest evaluation of his life, and came to a different conclusion. He slowly ventured, “The most painful experience I have learned from would probably be trusting in myself too much.” Severyn went on to describe how, before he committed his life to Jesus Christ, he was trying to be in control. He was trying to take the place of God. Now, he recognizes God's complete sovereignty and amazing goodness in his life.
