Bundled Line Drawing

Improved Essays
The first image I chose was my last bundled line drawing. Since there is a lack of precision when drawing with three bundled pencils, larger objects seemed to look more refined than smaller ones. The bird lighthouse also has a lot more shading than the other bundled line drawings I did. The second work I included was the drawing of the chair background. This drawing helped illustrate that sometimes it is easier to examine the shapes of the background than shapes of the foreground. The third drawing included is the beach scene, which demonstrated how much more detail I could achieve by dragging my eraser across certain areas. The timber texture on the huts would have looked more artificial if I had only used a charcoal pencil to draw a series

On the bottom right, there is an area of a teal color. On the top right, there is a large yellow dot. Around that dot, it fades from black to white like on the bottom left. Over the entire piece there are red zig-zagged lines. The elements most obvious in my work are color, line, shape and value.…

There are two major principles of design that are throughout the work, perspective and hierarchy. The entire painting is an aerial view of the landscape below Mount Holyoke. It starts up front showing some of the area of Mount Holyoke like the tree the hidden artist and the foliage on it, but then it transitions to below Mount Holyoke to the valley, river, hills, and mountains below. It even shows the smaller details of the tamed land below. It goes far off into the distance showing the horizon on the mountains.…

The artist used monochromatic colors as well as complementary colors to create some contrast and to bring overall harmony to the image. Another example is the use of implied lines that lead to the focal point. The focal point/emphasis is also another principle of design that brings harmony to the image. And the last example is the use of implied depth. All of these elements incorporated together to give the audience a feeling of unity and balance.…

My first symbol is the books. Maddy has spent all of her life locked in her house and in that time she read a lot. Choosing the books as a symbol shows what Maddy does with her time in the house. Then having my second symbol as the ocean shows where she wants to go. I chose the ocean because throughout the book and her time she spent talking with Olly she always talked about seeing the ocean and traveling.…

In both these responses I have drawn myself—an attempt to replicate Stanley Spencer’s style. Prior to drawing these responses, I had my photo taken. The source of light was shone on the right side of my face, and was limited to imitate the shadows in Spencer’s self-portrait. These responses link to the artist which I am studying as they both feature the use of self-portraiture, something that was typical and common of Stanley Spencer. I aimed to capture the same mysteriousness associated with Spencer’s 1914 self-portrait.…

I think that the elements we focused more on in this project were Value, Color, and Line. We were required to do a lot of shading which meant putting different values in different places to create the illusion of shadow. We used soft pastels to color, and we had to make many lines to form the objects depicted in the Still Life. As for the principles of Art, I believe we mostly focused on Proportion, Contrast, and Unity. We had to match the proportion of the objects to the ones in the smaller picture, and some contrast had to be made with the background and the foreground, and the entire drawing had to show Unity.…

The Maus I and II of Spiegelman tells a compelling story of his father’s experience and survival in the Holocaust. Unlike other novels, the style and fashion of this book were much more peculiar and controversial. Art Spiegelman used Illustration to present the story of his father by taking an approach of portraying different races of humans as animals. Though some people might be offended by the usage of animals to describe certain races of people, the book was able to capture the ideas of the Holocaust more prominently than simply regarding them as humans. Art used illustration to tell the story of his father because there are many scenes in the story which can’t be described by words.…
