In the non-fiction poem, Shane Koyczan talks about many people who were bullied as kids and how bad bullying is. In Shane Koyczan’s poem, there is a lot of symbolism. One symbol that sticks out to me is the halls of the school representing the battle ground for them. The kids in the classroom where “bombarded by spit balls” but when they would leave they would enter the “battleground where we found ourselves outnumbered day after wretched day” (Koyczan 3) The symbol of the halls being a battleground is so true for these kids because day after day after day they are getting bullied to the extent where they have to fight to avoid mental or physical pain.
