Bullying Personal Statement

Decent Essays
My final story is a bit more personal. In high school, I was both the victim and the bully. See, I was in this high school sorority and in order to become a member, you had to do a semester of pledging. During this time, you would have to assist all the members and do whatever they say. Once that semester is over, you were a member and then the following summer and fall you would get to haze the girls who were pledging. Everyone tried to make the pledge ship as funny and laid back, but ultimately it was still bullying. Throughout my pledge term, I had to do doggy piles where I would get smooshed. First of all, comparing in this essay is quite easier than contrasting since the only common thing here is bullying, but there are many difference between these two articles. The first article focuses on cyber-bullying outside of school hours, while the second article discusses homophobic bullying specifically in schools. These topics had been and still are very serious topics in our current day lives, and we must do whatever it takes to find proper solutions and ways in order to take control over the current situation and try to solve it completely as soon as possible. The article I chose to read was The Relationship Between Bullying and Depression: It’s Complicated. Previous studies have been done to determine the correlation between depression and bullying and they have had mixed results. This article discusses a research study that showed that depression in 4th grade children was followed by bullying in the 5th and 6th grade. The study was comprised of 486 students and used information from surveys given to the child’s parents, teachers peers and the child themselves to determine symptoms of depression, peer relationships and whether the youth was being bullied. This study found that for children who were exhibiting symptoms of being depressed in 4th grade had a higher chance of being bullied in…

I can relate to this post so much, and it truly breaks my heart. From when I was in 5th grade all the way to 9th grade, I was bullied. I honestly can say that those four years were the worst years of my childhood. I'm now a 22-year-old women and I still remember every single time those bullies hit me, pulled my hair, called me horrible names, throw my things in the trash can, and even glued my pants to my chair. It didn't matter how many times I asked my professors for help, they never believed me.…

They're all around you and they're unavoidable; They're labels. Everyone and everything has one. Even if we don't think we have one; We Do! There are some positives that come from labeling each other, But with the overwhelming evidence of the negatives of labeling I think we need to do away with labels all together. Children are being bullied at school, some communities feel superior to others, and young men and women are being killed on a daily basis, and why?…

I guess that I was always different from other people from the very start. I 'm not referring to my teenage ‘woe is me ' years, but since I was old enough to remember I was fundamentally unlike anyone my age. The way I thought and felt at that age was rather off. Much too intense and apathetic, yet I was still the best-behaved child in the household. I can 't recall much of my childhood and nothing at all from before the age of 6.…
