Bullying on the Internet As Anna Maria Chavez once said, “Unless our society recognizes cyber bullying for what it is, the suffering of thousands of victims will continue.” Anna’s words are indeed true. Cyber bullying is a serious issue that takes place on the internet. Victims of cyber bullying suffer daily, which is why it needs to end. Cyber bullying is negative because it can cause school failure, trigger depression or low self-esteem, and even cause victims to commit suicide. To begin, cyber bullying is negative because it can cause school failure. According to “Attack of the Cyber Bullies,” some schools hold assemblies to educate students of the impact that online harassment has on their education (“Attack”). Cyber bullying can effect students’ education because they are distracted by the bullying instead of doing their school work. Since most cyber bullying happens at a young age, it can affect how students perform in school. When victims are harassed, they often experience school failure. According to Leslie Pappas, “Educators … scramble to block elusive online threats before they slip onto school grounds” (Pappas). If educators fail to block online threats before they hit the school ground, school failure may continue to happen when students are cyber bullied.
