Imagine a young boy being thrown against a locker because he has an attraction to the same sex. Bullying has always been a serious issue in schools, but in recent years it has gotten worse because of social media. Bullying slowly picks away at students until they snap and do something they'll regret. The school's current bullying policies aren't doing enough because students are still being bullied based on their sexuality, weight, and are still having health issues later in life.

Most of the population loves people who are physically fit and not overweight, this includes students. In recent years obesity rates have increased in both children/adolescents and adults in America. Health officials are concerned that anyone who is overweight will be treated unjust throughout their life which includes school, work, friends, and family. Most of the people surveyed said that weight issues are the main issue people are bullied, few said race, sexuality, and disabilities. Most of the people said that schools need to better enforce protection for overweight students, as it is a "very serious" issue."Yet most states anti-bullying laws don't protect overweight children."(Puhl) Technically there are no laws protecting people who are overweight or obese, and it is actually legal to do so(even though it's frowned upon). The fact that there are no laws protecting them basically tells people that it is ok. People believe that being rude to people who are "fat", will result in motivation for them to lose weight. That is not what it does, it actually makes kids want to skip class or even school to avoid bullying. Most students who are overweight try to skip P.E. class to avoid shaming. The culture in today's society shows that people praise thinness and physically activity, which causes everyone to have a single thought about how we should look.
