Workplace bullying happens frequently in the world, but is an issue that can be resolved with more supervision and the support of Human Resources. This issue often gets overlooked because the focus is more on bullying of kids and how that will affect their future, but what we do not focus on is the bullying in which happens with those who have already passed that stage and are living in the working class. Overlooked issues are the ones that need the most attention. “There are several things correlated to this issue and one that is very apparent is that bullies tend to have more resources than targets” (Assel 1999 p. 2). Superiority comes with great responsibility and with great responsibility comes a lot of attention. Anyone in a superior position is put on a pedestal and with that everyone sees what is on the outside and bypass what is happening behind the scenes. People can easily and deceivingly put on a front that can stray onlookers from their real being. According to StopBullying.gov, bullying is defined as “unwanted, aggressive behavior amongst individuals that involves a real or perceived power imbalance” (U.S Department of Health & Human Services). This can be in the workplace and in everyday life. With different aspects of bullying, one must see what drives the bully to hone in on someone. Those are aggression, humor or play, challenge, and ambiguity (Mills). These four aspects contribute in the means of what is bullying and what isn’t. Teasing can happen in the form of aggression. Aggressive teasing happens when someone is hostile about a situation and they tease the person out of anger and possibly angst to get back at them. This in a way can be seen as bullying because it is merely an act of aggressive behavior. When humor and play come into the picture it is more of a topic in which most people can understand that whatever was said was a joke, but at times that is where people seem to think that they are getting bullied.
