Bullying In The Workplace: Speech By Linda Bond Edwards

Improved Essays
Linda Bond Edwards gave a speech about bullying in the workplace, which I was surprisingly unfamiliar to the terms and conditions about. One thing that I was not truly aware of was the fact that workplace bullying is not illegal, and there is not much to do about it unless they are targeting someone of a specific gender, disability, or race. Since I was not as familiar with workplace bullying, I was unaware that there is a whole week dedicated to a Freedom from Workplace Bullying, which really surprised me since I did not think that bullying in the workplace was common and definitely did not think it was a big deal. Something that really stuck out to me was the characteristics of a bully in the workplace. Linda mentioned the typical bully

A behavior that is often intentional and most likely repeated by either one or more persons. It is this cruel act of bullying, which is reflective of emotional, verbal, and or physical embarrassment, shame, or indignity and can also, cause anxiety, depression, pain, injury, or even death to anyone who is the target of a bully. o whomever, it may concern, I 'm writing this letter today to address what I believe to be considered as "Workplace bullying"; the workplace bullying has occurred for around two years now. Whilst I should have 'spoken up ' earlier about this matter, I have been too scared to say; do, or act on anything; as it may result in myself being removed from the Nolan Street roster. (DW), (JM) and (GM) are good individuals; I hold no personal grudges or other personal feelings against these individuals, however on a professional basis; I believe the aforementioned co-workers have treated/dealt with me in an unsatisfactory professional standard. These individuals have done nothing but bully me with rosters, yelled; intimidated and threatened me by absolute absurd means.…

Essentially, her work suggests that employees will adapt and follow the leaders of the company once they have been provided with crucial leadership training (Andersen, 2012). Andersen suggests that leaders and veterans who are new to their positions have the potential to be successful leaders by following her framework, to lead in a way that creates loyalty (Andersen, 2012). Andersen provides an alternate take on workplace bullying that suggests that the employee, claiming to be bullied, is partially to blame because of their personality or attitude. Her work does not necessarily refute my thesis; however, suggest taking an alternate route to change employees’ perceptions. I find that this will be beneficial for my research; furthermore it offers options for employees who feel they are being…

One problem that is ever evolving and continuously effects young adolescence in school is bullying. Bullying can be defined as an activity in which someone intentionally participates in either physically or emotionally harming a peer through any medium; such as words, actions, or technology. By applying this definition to the term bullying, it makes sense that almost every teenager in America can identify a time when they were bullied, when they bullied someone else, or a time when they saw a peer get harassed. And with an increase in technology use, minorities in school, and a growing LGBT group in the education system the problem is only going to get worse. There is a common misconception in the adult community as well as media that somehow…
