The term bullying was not publicly recognized until a publication of this behavior was in a well-known newspaper The Times. After almost seventy-two years of publications, in 1862, The Times wrote their first story on bullying when a soldier allegedly died due to bullying. The Times was the first to record bullying and the major consequences that can follow. As bullying became more popular to right about, it began to draw more attention to researchers and they wanted to know more about this phenomenon. A case study is an examination of a particular problem. Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among individuals that involves perceived power imbalance. There are three types of bullying: verbally, socially, and physically. There are also three ways in which bullying can occur: someone can be bullied, they can bully others, and they can witness bullying. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, and attacking someone physically or verbally. This behavior has a potential to be repetitive over time and varies among age groups. These behaviors can occur anywhere, but depending on the environment, some societies might be at a higher risk. There are many signs in which how you can tell someone has been or is getting bullied. Anyone can be a target for bullying for their looks and personalities, having low self-esteem, and have a learning disability. Bullying contributes to physical and mental health and even suicide among gay teens. Bullies often target those who don’t seem like they would fight back. Their body language often attracts teen bullies because they know that nothing will be done to stop them. There are studies that show that teens with learning disabilities or behavioral disorders are at an increase of getting bullied. One positive effect the press has made is that the behaviors toward bullying has drastically changed recently. In the 1980 's, drugs were the main problem in schools and was prohibited. Nowadays, bullying and bad behavior in the classroom or online is prohibited. We as people should care about bullying because it destroys lives. Suicide isn 't the only negative outcome of bullying. Bullying can also lead to lifelong physiological problems, a lack of career options, and an overall sense of failure. There are multiple ways in which people can try and prevent bullying or to reduce the risk of bullying in a community. One way is simply learning about this issue. Media attention on bullying and cyber bullying is increasing rapidly. The more informed and educated you are on this topic the more effective you can be to prevent bullying.
