It is estimated that 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students (“Facts and Statistics”). The number increases each year. Bullying is undesired, belligerent behavior among people of different ages that involves a real or perceived power variation (“Bullying Definition”). Bullying in the United States is a serious issue that impacts various aspects, such as the victim, parents, businesses, and even social media; therefore people should be made aware of the issue to attempt to prevent it.
There are many different types of bullying that can take place such as verbal bullying, physical bullying, cyber bullying, relational aggression, sexual bullying and prejudicial bullying.

Amanda Todd was born in 1996 in British Columbia, Canada (“The Amanda Todd Story”). Amanda was a cheerful, outgoing girl until an anonymous person encouraged Amanda to flash the top half or her body to him. About a year later the same person had sent the picture out and it went viral, causing peers to tease, bully, and physically abuse her. She began to have no friends and her reputation was ruined, even though she moved schools several times. She eventually attempted to kill herself by drinking bleach but she was saved at the last moment. Later she successfully committed suicide by hanging herself. At some point before her death Amanda made a YouTube video telling her story in silence only using flashcards. Her video reached a number of 17 million views. Even after her death and watching her video, people still made fun of her suicide and video making comments stating that she deserved it (“The Amanda Todd …show more content…
Campaigns such as Secret’s deodorant company and Rachel’s Challenge are two good campaigns that help raise the awareness of bullying. Secret’s campaign is based on girl-to-girl bullying (“Mean Stinks”). Secrets deodorants are a women brand item and they strive to make a difference in bullying between girls. By doing this they held their biggest assembly that 400 schools across the nation viewed (“Mean Stinks”). Everyone knows the story of the boy bullying the girl on the playground but today female bullying has become more prominent, if not worse than male bullying (“Female Bullies”). Girls tend to bully more over social media by posting comments and posting pictures, making fun of other girls. Another anti-bullying campaign is the Rachel’s Challenge. The Rachel’s Challenge is non-profit organization that includes a chain of student empowering programs (“About Rachel’s Challenge”). These programs help students and adults to fight against bullying by creating an environment of friendliness and compassion. These programs are based on the life of 17 year old, Rachel Scott, who was the first person killed in the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999 (“About Rachel’s Challenge”). She was known for reaching out to those who were different, picked on, or new to school. This program is dedicated to making school environments safe for all
