Teen suicide is an ever constant issue that this nation and the world as a whole has to deal with on a daily basis. Thousands of adolescents every take their own life due to a multitude of issues and problems. These pointless deaths could be avoided through the direct or indirect intervention of friends, family, and even persons outside of the child’s life. At the beginning of my research, I didn’t know a lot of information pertaining to this major issue, however after thorough research I have gained valuable insight. In this paper, I will tell the reader the major issues that lead to teen suicide, the impact that they leave behind in their wake, and the ways these tragedies could have been avoided. However, that isn’t the case for all, seeing as even the most popular kids in school can and have been bullied and most of the time it is not physical, but verbal, mental, and physiological. With the evolution of technology, bullying and teen suicide has grown exponentially. Today, people of all ages and walks of life have access to the internet where they can anonymously post detrimental things about others and get away consequence free. Cyber bullying is now the leading cause of teen suicide and it will stay this way until serious consequences are instilled for such behavior. People that define their sexuality other than heterosexual are at a higher risk of suicide, due to bullying. In today’s society more and more people define their sexuality other than heterosexual and/or are changing their body to fit the sexuality that they feel is them. Lesbian, Gay or Bisexual (LGB) teens are three to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers. These are just some of the issues that cause teens to attempt suicide, but what is the impact on the person’s family and friends after such an attempt one might …show more content…
Mental health professionals worldwide has conducted studies, wrote papers, and have taken action to confront the underlying causes of suicide. The main factor that almost every case of teen suicide has in common is depression. By definition depression is, “a condition of general emotional dejection and withdrawal; sadness greater and more prolonged than that warranted by any objective reason.” (Dicitionary.com) Teens are at a high risk of becoming depressed, due to the fact that during this time they are experiencing puberty and with puberty comes a different mindset. With the constant uphill battle of combating teen suicide at hand, doctors and health professionals have discovered the outlying symptoms and actions that can be observed from someone who is thinking of suicide.
Neglect of personal appearance and hygiene, loss of interest in activities that once dominated their life, and a sudden change in personality are just a few of the factors that could mean a teen is
