Imagine waking up every morning dreading going to school, work, or even simply going into another room of your own home. Many people face this fear everyday because one thing, bullies. Some may argue that bullying isn’t a big deal and people should just toughen up. In reality bullying is a huge issue in today’s society. According to Kowalski and Limber (2012), bullying is defined as, “acts of aggression that are repeated over time and that involve a power imbalance between the perpetrator and his or her target”. First we’ll talk about the types of bullying, then we’ll discuss how bullying can have negative affects on people, and lastly we will learn of the preventions of bullying. One of the most common and most widely known forms of bullying is face to face. Bullying face to face, forces the perpetrator to be held accountable for their actions. By bullying someone else in person, they’re able to see the reactions and the damage they are causing to their victim. If they are bullying in front of others, there’s also a chance that someone could step in and stop the situation. Also, there would be witnesses around to point the finger and help to name the bully. Sweetingham and Waller, found a link between bully victims and eating disorders. Through a study of 92 eating-disordered women, they found that the evidences support there was a 46.7% relationship with being made fun of by their peers and their family (2008).
