Social bullying is often seen in cliques or social groups. These groups will attack someone to make them look more powerful and in control. Bullying of any kind is not just the victim’s problem. It is also the problem of anyone who witnesses it. Social bullies should always be held accountable. Their actions should always be reported and consequences should take place. This should occur all the time, no matter where or when the bullies attempt to hurt others. Measures should be taken to protect the victim and the offenders should be disciplined. Also, you should not retaliate. Getting back at the bully turns you into one and that reinforces the bully’s behavior. You should help to avoid the cycle of aggression. When preventing cyberbullying it is also important to save the evidence. A good thing about cyberbullying is that it can be documented. Messages, emails, or pictures can be captured, saved, and shown to someone who can help. A trusted adult should also be involved. If cyberbullying involves social media, which nowadays it usually does, you should block the bully. Being civil is also important in these situations.
Being a friend and not a bystander is very important when it comes to cyberbullying. Watching the situation play out or forwarding messages along can only hurt the situation.
