Cyberbullying Cyberbullying is when someone uses the Internet, cell phones, or other electronic devices to spread harmful and/or embarrassing information about a minor. This can be done by text, photos, or videos. It can also include sending threats, making sexual remarks, using offensive language or labels, or starting rumors or lies about the victim. Cyberbullying is when the behavior is pointed at a minors. Many teens overlook cyberbullying as simply annoying, or funny, but it can have serious consequences. Victims of cyberbullying can experience serious emotional distress issues. Some of these emotional distress issues are anger, frustration, embarrassment, sadness, fear, and depression. Kids that have been bullied usually withdraw from social contact, and their sense of self-esteem can be damaged. Victims can endure serious psychological issues. This can lead to depression, and in some cases suicide. Cyberbullying can also interfere with the victim's ability to perform schoolwork. In some cases, it can cause the victim to change schools. The percent of middle schools that reported bullying problems is 44 percent (“Bullying and Cyberbullying Statistics in the United States”).
