This paper will incorporate what is cyber bullying versus bullying. It will show how bullying effects people. It will also compare the suicide rate of girls versus boys in several countries. Some interventions are counseling and confronting to help with the stress of bullying. Computers are a great tool, however, in the hands of the wrong person it can be a death trap.
Cyber bullying involves someone making threats and mean comments to others through the internet, in-person or over the phone. Cyber bully happens because someone may not be liked by others because of their lifestyle or physical appearance. Twitter is a site that allows post and following of breaking news and direct messaging to communicate. A disadvantage of cyber bullying is envying and hatred is the cause the cyber bullying. There have been other high-profile cases in Canada, such as Jenna Bowers-Bryanton, a 15-year-old Nova Scotia girl that took her own life in January 2011. (CBC, 2012) Cyber bullying can affect people to the point they commit suicide or become depressed. An advantage is to confront the person that is causing the bullying by letting them know how it made them feel and ask them to stop. Anyone can be a target for cyber bullying. A factor is being stubborn, bitterness and resentment of others is a reason cyber bullying may start.
