As Christians, we are to know the Word of God and apply it to the decisions that we make each day. Jesus says in John 14:15, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (English Standard Version). The remainder of the chapter Stapleford identifies various broad principles from Scripture for Christian conduct in economic life (p.32). Of the eighteen economic issues and arguments that are covered in the book, taking care of the needy and justice for the poor came up in as many as fifteen of those, with one chapter talking only about poverty and distributive justice. Due to the overwhelming presence of this theme throughout the book we are able to see that in every aspect of our lives and in every decision that we make, we have to think about more than what is best for us. Specifically we should be thinking about what we can do to help those around us that are in need.
