Bullfighting
Bullfighting is a traditional sport originating from Europe and Latin America. It involves bulls being publically taunted, baited, prodded, and eventually, stabbed to death by bullfighters inside of a ring. Most bullfights result in serious injuries to bullfighters, and almost always a certain death for the bulls. Bullfighting is considered by many a cultural tradition, and even a form of art. This has aided bullfighting in avoiding scrutiny in Spain. In the ear 2013, Spain labeled bullfighting as a cultural heritage, thus making it nearly impossible to put a ban on the so called sport. This is composed of three separate events or acts. The usual bullfight is supposed to last around 20 minutes, but it varies depending on played out events. Upon entering the ring, bulls have become known to collapse due to exhaustion caused by the abuse and altering of the bull’s state prior to the fight. If the bull does happen to collapse, it is then dragged by its feet by the matador’s assistants. The fight itself begins when the bulls faces off with the picadors. Picadors are the men on horses whose only purpose is to exhaust the bull. The men cut into the bull’s neck muscles with six to eight inch blade called a pica. Once thrusted into the bull, the blade is twisted leaving large gaping wounds on the animal. Which means the animal is already bleeding to death after the first act of the bullfight. This gives the animal no chance of survival prior to the start the second and third act. After the picadors come the assistant matadors. These men are tasked with striking the bull with harpoon like instruments known as banderillas. Up to six banderillas are brutally shoved into the bull’s skin before the assistant matadors consider their task completed. Lastly, the matador moves in for the kill. Matadors are supposed to severe an artery and kill the bull with a single strike. This almost never happens, and the bull is struck two to three times before being killed. These helpless animals undergo extreme cruelty, and are not allowed peace even
