Bullets: A Narrative Fiction

The starless sky was casket-black and brooding. Even the clouds seemed morose. Frozen hands clasped algid steel as the Kelly gang gazed upon their foe. The cold, malevolent wind howling and mewled through Dan and the souls of the Kelly gang in every which way. “Bang!” A fierce sound of bullet from the police startled Dan’s ears. The last stand of the Kelly gang has begun. “Fire!” Dan’s brother Ned shouted with a quivering voice. It was Dan’s first time seeing his brother getting extremely nervous. Maybe it was because of the thought that this might be the last battle of his life. Bullets were zipping and hissing through the air. Some of the hostages were sobbing and sniveling with fear. Dan was screaming and screeching as the ground became slippery with his sweat and blood. Dan managed to crawl as far as the wall with his gun on his hand. In front of Dan, there was Ned Kelly with his can-scarecrow looking armor on, fiercely shooting upon the police. Few seconds later, Dan’s best friend Steve fell next to Dan and Steve’s body was painted with his blood and was not moving. Dan fell into tears and regretted the time that he didn’t stop the gang to come to Glenrowan, which might’ve avoided this situation. Dan recalled the days he spent with his gang. Valuable memories with his gang and families quickly passed through Dan’s thoughts. Not much time were allowed for Dan to reminiscence. His senses became hypersensitive. Fear hanging heavily in the air, he could feel the mud squelching beneath him, sticking to him as he forced his feet to stand and all he could hear was the thump-thump of his heartbeat, pounding deafeningly through his head. Dan yelled, irrational courage searing through him, leaving him helplessly incapable of resisting the overpowering wave of emotion, and opened fire.
