Creating a memorial can be complicated. When choosing a way to symbolize an important part of history, there are multiple factors that play an important role. A group or agency should consider the cost and properly symbolizing the event or person within the creation of the monument. The cost of a dedication is a necessary aspect.…
Monuments have been up, built, and honored for hundreds of years now. Whether or not if it represented a significant individual during a crucial time period, or just to honor an individual’s successful for trapping lobsters (Source F), monuments have been valued for a long time. However, in recent years, many communities, and groups, have found themselves questioning the existence of a particular statute, due to it’s meaning and what it really represents. Which will lead into a follow up question. What factors should a group or agency, consider and examine, in memorializing an event or person in creating a monument.…
The clues left by these processes allows to see how great the Earth is, and how over millions of years a once flat lying land can become a sculpture that Americans can cherish. The granite that was produced over time allowed Gutzon Borglum to determine a place where he could sculpt a memorial dedicated to the founding, expansion, preservation, and unification of the United States. Mount Rushmore is something America will be able to admire for centuries, as Borglum…
When we consider memorializing an event or person in the form of a monument, no one would imagine it being gnawed away by rats. Certain shortfalls arise when contrasting these forgotten structures and, say, the often-visited monuments of the National Mall. We must mind these qualities if we wish to prevent its fall to obscurity. Foremost, whatever cause our memorial will commemorate, it must resound in the hearts of the people.…
The cost depends mostly on how much of the materials will be needed, which depends on the size of the monument being made. All of these details may seem slightly insignificant, but are essential when creating a meaningful monument. Figuring out the materials he/she would be using and the cost of those materials is something that the creator of "The Maine Lobsterman" should have done. "The sculpture was supposed to be cast in bronze and made part of the Maine exhibit at the 1939 New York World's Fair. But Maine ran out of money, so the artist just slapped a coat of bronze paint over the plaster model and shipped it to New York" (Source F).…
Monuments serve as archaic examples of mortal lifespan and progressing mentality and politics. As proven by the ever-changing form of political stature or correctness, and social mentality to various figures, messagage and controversy ever depicted in the ostentatious "aura" of figuratively and literally failing monuments and depictions throughout society, time and history alike. "The monumental core of washington serves much like a pilgrimage site" (Savage Kirk; Washington D.C, The national mall, and transformation of memorial landscape. Berkely 2009. Source A)…
Personal from all my research and note taking I think we should not take down Confederate Monuments. If we do why not also take down Union Monuments Like Shermans he ruined the south's homes and even killed civilians. I know the south had slavery but so did some of the states in the north. In fax lincoln said that if he could bring the confederates back to the union without freeing any of the slaves, he would do that. This shows that Slavery was not the key of the union war.…
... the monument manufactures its own aura." (Source A) When they say aura, it has its own feeling that surrounds itself. This helps you get a sense of feeling about what makes the monument so…
I believe that Confederate monuments should be removed from New Orleans and other American cities because the Confederacy was against the United States of America. The statues represent fighting against the United States. It ignores death, slaves, and terror that the time stands for. It maintains slavery and white supremacy. There is nothing encouraging that these statues contribute to.…
With the use of marble as the material, the memorial was built with the viewer knowing that this particular monument will endure the…
One must think, what does it take to create a monument? People create monuments to honor past events that affected the way people live or how people act and ect. When i think of making a monument I think about impress the public. The monuments that are up around the United States are really inspiring to people because of what they mean and the history behind them. Monuments should be made to honor special events or people and should be taken well care of so that people can respect the monument and not want to take it down.…
Imagine you meet a woman who refuses to drive or ride in a car, despite the inconveniences such a conviction would cause. She might seem unreasonable and perhaps silly, but if you knew that she or a loved one nearly lost their life in a car accident, her decision makes more sense. The necessary ligament connecting these changes in perception is, of course, context. Understanding the context of a monument can be just as necessary as understanding this theoretical woman's hardship. Unfortunately, because of a monument's fixed, unmoving existence, a frame of reference has to be sought out, and any lack of it fosters ignorance of the person or event.…
Monuments are a great way to honor a great person or an important event. Monuments are used all over the place and are marking the history of things. One of my favorite monuments is the Veterans Freedom Flag Monument in Lima, Ohio. Many people think that monuments are pointless but I think they are very meaningful.…

The Pyramids are filled with mysteries, such as the real reason they were built, who built them, and many more. Some say the Pyramids were built for Pharaohs and others say that they were built as an alien spaceship. Many say, that the pyramids were built by groups of men, up to 10,000 at a time. Others say that they were built with the large groups, however the men were all under the control of a God.…
