Building Blocks: St. Albert Brickyard
Bricks and mortar are the blocks that can help build a community. From 1903 to 1932, many of those bricks came from the St. Albert Brickyard.

First Industry
Fleuri Perron, who arrived in the area around 1883 and became an entrepreneur, built the brickyard on the Sturgeon River. When it opened on North River Road, about an eighth of a mile east of downtown, it was the first industry in the area.

The brickyard provided jobs for about 20 men. Its bricks were known for their strength and quality. For example, the bricks were used to build Thomas Bowden Sr.’s house on Sturgeon Road, which he later successfully moved to Edmonton in 1922.

Legacy
Perron eventually sold the brickyard to Herbert Jacobs. Today,
