Monuments gives people emotions that they wouldn't get by just reading about it or hearing it. For example the Vietnam monuments in Washington DC gives us an emotion of sympathy for the soldiers and as well sorrow. In Kirk’s writing continues to provide the positive factors of building a monument, “the monumental core in Washington functions somewhat live a pilgrimage site, where communities of believers actually come together in the act of occupying a holy site.” Kirk is giving an example in his writing that it doesn’t just remind people about history it brings them together. That outcome becomes a factor for when building a monument because it's a reason to build one. In Christine Musser text she talks about how making a Holocaust monument will make things more diverse and bring people together. There are people that don't want the monument to be built because “Who did little to stop the Holocaust from occurring, or as one protester said, ‘Imagine a holocaust museum in the town whose political sages refused to lift a finger to halt the Holocaust or open our shores to the few survivors! How offensive to any informed individual!’” I understand what they're talking about but we still helped and brought many refugees here. For example what if we never built the African American museum and monuments of African Americans because we treated them badly and never helped them. Does it sound uneducated, right? These are the negative factors when building a monument, It’s how people view that person or piece of history. That’s why we need to accept people and honor those who deserve it.
