The Buick brand made quite a bit of noise just ahead of the start of the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit this past weekend.

GM’s premium brand introduced two vehicles — a compact crossover SUV and a rear-wheel drive sport coupe. The first model is a production vehicle known as the Buick Envision. The second model is a concept coupe, dubbed the Avista. At this point, only the Envision is assured — the Avista’s place in Buick’s line up has yet to be confirmed.

Given that the Avista is currently in concept form — meaning it represents a styling idea for now — we’ll focus on the Envision. Of course, the thought of Buick receiving a a sleek sport coupe, one that shares its architecture with the Chevrolet Camaro and an engine to soon power the Cadillac

A rearview camera is included, while the available Surround Vision system provides a streaming 360-degree view of the SUV’s surroundings right on the console’s display. This system works at low speeds and is particularly useful when parking and reversing.

Additional standard safety features include seat safety alert, front park assist, lane change alert, rear cross traffic alert, and lane keep assist. Also available is adaptive cruise control and collision mitigating braking. As with all Buick vehicles, the Envision is equipped with OnStar technology featuring an advanced crash response system along with emergency assistance and other features.

The Bottom Line

The Buick Envision provides a natural succession for customer’s seeking to step up from the Encore without immediately jumping to the Buick Enclave. Given that nearly all Buick and GMC dealerships are united under one roof, the slightly larger GMC Terrain has provided another choice for consumers.
