Budget Cuts In Schools: A Case Study

For a solution project a problem that needs to be solved is the budget cuts in my school district. The Dysart School distracts changed kindergarten classes from full time to part time for the school year of 2015-16 due to budget cuts. The problem now is all children attending kindergarten are only in kindergarten for 2.5 hours a day unless the parents pay for the full day. Although some parents will pay for the full day of kindergarten regardless, some parents may not be able to pay for the full day. These are the children that will not get that full experience that can help them in future years of school. Also the budget cuts have caused the district to lay off some teachers which has resulted in larger class sizes in most of the schools in the district. This problem is important to me since my children attend schools in the Dysart school district. As a result, they are affected by these changes and my youngest will be starting kindergarten in a year and he should have the opportunity to attend a full day of kindergarten with all of his classmates. …show more content…
The “Effects of Full-Day Kindergarten on Academic Achievement and Social Development” article provided a research study with statistics on how full day kindergarten provides several benefits to young children. Both of these articles provided me with information that can help my case. However, I will need to still research more on the Dysart school district to find out more about the budget cuts. Also more information will be needed on the possible solution I have in mind and if it fails what can be a possible backup
