Budgerigars Budgerigars live in Australia in big flocks, during the day they spend most of their time in and under trees due to the heat. They eat the food the tree has in it and fly off only if danger is in the area. Budgies, or budgerigars are native to Australia, they exist in the wild as well as captivity and they make great house pets for any pet owner that is beginning with birds. Budgies take well to the domestic life and are very social animals. Many parents give a budgie to their children as a starter bird if the child wants a bigger bird that requires more work or attention. One of the very controversial topics about birds is clipping their flight wings, this is done so they don’t fly into things, however, birds can still glide and fly a little even with their flight wings clipped off, in my opinion it is up to the owner whether or not a budgie should have its flight wings clipped, on one hand there is no down side to clipping a budgies wings, as it has no known psychological effects on the bird nor physically unhealthy effects. The types of toys a budgie has however, does influence both the psychological and physical wellness of a budgerigar, plastic toys are unhealthy for budgies because of the chemicals inside of the plastic, wood and metal toys are best for budgies, but metal with sharp edges should not be in a budgies cage, as a few drops of blood again, could prove fatal. Mirrors are not good for the psychological health of a budgie because if left with a mirror a budgie will talk to itself for hours on end, slowly pushing it into madness and making the bird literally schizophrenic. All chemicals are harmful to a budgerigar, a budgies cage should never be in a kitchen or close to any cleaning fluids, if a budgies cage should need clean a mixture of vinegar, lemon juice, and water should be used to clean
