Buddy Holly was the musician that changed the face or rock and roll for history to come. In fact, many references to him, his songs, or the way he died can be found in songs decades later including don McLeans song American Pie, the rolling stones “not fade away”, and the beatles were named in tribute to the crickets
Buddy had always had a love for music. When he was a little boy he learned how to play the piano and the fiddle. Once Buddy was old enough his brother taught him everything he knew about how to play the guitar. Once in high school at the age of 16 he and a few of his friends started making their own music. They were able to schedule their band to play at local events and festivals showing the towns people what talent the group of them had.
Their music was only western and country music at the time because that was all people really listened too. The group would soon be known so well throughout the whole town they would play at a festival opening the show for none other than the king of Rock And Roll himself Elvis. What Buddy and his friends didn’t know is that there was a recording company scout there looking to find the future top artist. Releasing their very first hit single in 1957 named “That’ll Be The Day”. Which quickly rose in the musical ranks making the popularity of their band shoot through the roof. The band through time became known best for their ability to transfer so well from country right into rock and roll. People began to ask Buddy what gave him his drive to keep pushing out his music. He answered with “ I owe it all to elvis for giving me the jumpstart to my new career”. If Elvis had never agreed to let Holly open up his big show Buddy’s band may have never made it into the big music
