When questioned about how followers could make a difference with peace, Brother Thây basically stated that peace starts with the individual then spreads into the community, then to the world, and both Maples and Wards have started (Tippett). Captain Maples used his teachings to better interact with the people she arrested or intended to arrest as well as inmates. Her account of when she decided to talk to father instead of arresting him during a domestic violence call was commendable (Tippett).She was actually able to peacefully handle the situation considering being in a high stress environment and kept it from escalating. She is now a certified dharma teacher and has created a conference for Thây to come and teach police officers (Tippett). Thây’s teaching also came in handy for Ward when his father would not allow any of his children to see him after Ward’s mom passed away (Tippett). Instead of leaving him alone, Ward persisted to leave him flowers at the door every time he came to visit until the day his father finally open the door (Tippett). He has even wrote a book with his wife on relationships while co-directing the Lotus Institute (Tippett). He and Maples both believe that they can start change in their communities and even nations and with their beliefs along with Thây’s teaching will accomplish their goals. Overall,
