He lost his mother at 6 years old and never really met his father. He really wants to meet and find his true loving family. He meets some hardships along his mysterious journey. It's a good thing he was brave and adventurous. Bud, Not Buddy would be a different book if Bud was shy, and not adventurous because he wouldn't have been as determined to find his father, travel so far on foot, and persistent to escape his mean foster family the Amos's and fight back. In Chapters 3 and 4, It explains how Bud was put and locked up harshly in the shed. Scared and alone any little boy would at least have a sudden fright or just give up in general. He fought back while a whole troop of hornets were after him and still managed to make a sneaky escape. In Chapter 4, he gets his revenge on the Amos's for their wrong doings and bad treatment towards him. He makes Todd pee in his bed. Any shy gentle boy would be scared out of his mind of what he would do if he ever caught him. Once Bud got his revenge he traveled and scurried away from the Amos's.
