Call of the wild was an ok book. It was boring and hard to understand. Chapter 1 was my least favorite Chapter because Buck (the dog) was taken from his home in Santa Clara Valley; beaten with a club. He has had a rough time learning what to do in Alaska from trying to keep warm to eating fast enough. The part that I liked the most was when Buck went to live with John Thornton in the end of the book (chapters 5, 6, 7).…

"Jack London's The Call of the Wild is a great book. Its story offers reader many themes: nature; survival of the fittest; relationships between man/dogs, dogs/nature, and man/nature; loyalty; and answering the call of one's own heart (whether you be man or beast). At the heart of the story is the journey of Buck, the dog who is kidnapped, sold, and made to run in grueling Canadian dog races. Buck suffers many trials along the way; being separated from his master, being beaten and starved, and treated cruelly by most of the humans he is unfortunate enough to interact with. That all changes when Thornton comes into Buck's life.…

The Call of the Wild - Emma Chen The Call of the Wild by John London tells the story of Buck, a housedog who is stripped of his comfortable lifestyle and kidnapped to pull sleds along the cold and unforgiving lands of Yukon in Canada during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush. Exposed to “the law of Club and Fang” as he sees a friend get ripped apart by other dogs, Buck soon begins to get in touch with his primitive instincts which were hidden away during his captivity. IfThe Call of the Wild is a story about ultimately achieving mastery over a foreign, primal world, that mastery is achieved only through separation from the group and independent survival. Throughout much of the story, Buck is serving a master or a pack; even as a leader he is carrying out someone else’s commands and is responsible for the well-being of the group. In many ways, then, when John Thornton cuts Buck free from his harness, he is also beginning the process of Buck’s separation from a pack mentality. Although Buck continues to serve Thornton, his yearnings for a solitary life in the wild eventually overcome…
