In this Journal I am going to be reflecting about the competency 4: Engage in practice-informed research and research-informed practice. I will be describing from my understanding the value of a literature review and engaging in research change during the BSW program, how learning to search for data, read and use peer review articles had been for me throughout the process and finally what could I improve in order to inform the agency where in interning at Girls in the Game. During my BSW program I have learned that a Literature Review is a major assignment. Before you start with searching articles the first step is to have a topic. My topic for this literature review assignment was “What are Culturally Relevant Social Work Intervention for Latina girls”, this topic fits well with my Agency because we coach girls to be able to understand peer-pressure, healthy eating, sports and be self-awareness. I have learn so much at Girls in the Game that I want other parents and girls to be able to know how important is to have programs like this that girls can benefit and used them throughout life. Since I had my topic the next step was to research articles that included social work intervention for girls, the best part of this assignment is that you can identify your meaning of the topic for example a healthy lifestyle for me is not just about eating healthy it means more about having an education, mental health and be physical active. I was able to find Journal Articles from the Ebscohost Library and Girls in the Game Best Practice handbook, these searches help me to support my research topics and It’s a great experience having to search for information through peer review articles from other peoples
