My supervisor and I mostly are there to for emotional support and a person to come to if they have a problem so we can help them get the services need to resolve the problem. We mostly use strength based perspective and solution-focused approach. However, We don’t really use one …show more content…
So when we visit them to check in with them at least every six months, more often if needed. When my supervisor and I meet with the Pt. we remind them of the all their strengths. Me also go over mindfulness/meditations and breathing techniques along with Positive encouragement and reassurance.
For example, we have one Pt. that has lost a lot over the past year and also has depression. The Pt. requested a meeting with my supervisor and myself. She had some complaints about certain things. She may have been projecting her grief as angry onto some of the workers. We listened to her complaint and talked to her about them. We then went over the breathing mindfulness technique that we had previously taught her. We also went over all her strengths. At the end of the meeting we offered future meetings with this Pt. and reminded her that she could call us anytime to set up a meeting or to talk.
One of the main things that I have learned during my internship is how to put what I’m learning during class into practice. I have also learned how to fine tune the skill of adapting my technique of talking to people depending on the needs of the client. I have also learned how to not overthink things and to go with my gut
