Most of the time during the handwriting test Bryson rested his head on his left hand. Bryson showed a few behaviors that are consistent with students that have weakness in their postural stability.
1. He tended to write very fast. Students who have poor stability in their shoulder muscles and/or postural muscles will tend to complete tasks with poor control or quickly. This is due to the fact that in order to have slow controlled movement requires more postural stability and control of muscles.
2. Bryson shrugged his shoulders during some activities. This denotes a weakness in co-contraction of the shoulder girdle muscles leading to overall weakness in arm use. This can affect a person’s ability to lift, pull, and push weighty objects.
3. Bryson tended to flex his body forward during handwriting tasks. He would lean his chest against the table, lean his head on his left hand, and he lost postural control quickly with some fine motor tasks. This tells the examiner that Bryson has difficulty using his postural muscles when he has to perform more difficult fine motor

In regards to placement or map out of IEP for Bentley Barr. Per the evaluations that were conducted by Childwatch/Capital School District, Bentley’s family has been discussing the best options and we’re not sure we agree and would like to re-evaluate Bentley’s placement choice for the Wesley School for reasons to be further noted. I request Prior Written Notice to explain why Bentley was offered a two day program even though the IEP team thought that he needed to be awarded one more day, but there simply is no more room in this classroom for him. The team felt that this was the best option for him and that he would be able to learn more due to a smaller classroom size with this choice.…

According to the 19th-month developmental examiner’s report, Ryder is advanced in spatial skills, shown in activities such as building block towers to copy one made by the examiner, copying shapes, coloring within the lines, and solving picture puzzles. To be honest, I believe that this advancement is due to both environmental and biological factors because these two factors both influence child development and often coincide together. My hypothesis is that the biological factors caused Ryder’s desire to play indoor, quiet activities such as puzzles and with blocks, and the environmental factors fostered this. In the textbook, it explains that to support a babies’ fine and gross motor skills, parents must do three things. One, provide a stimulating environment.…

According to an article titled Preemie Milestones on the website healthychildren when it comes to preemies and their development you should adjust their age to get a real sense of where they are developmental wise. For instance, since J.J is 26 weeks old, but was born 13 weeks early, subtract 13 from 26. This gives you 13 weeks. When I took the learning styles assessment it concluded that I am a tactile learner, which indicates that I comprehend by doing or touching. It is difficult for me to process information just by listening or reading, I would have to physically write it down over and over for it be imprinted into my brain. I use a lot of hand gesture while speaking because it helps me remember what the situation was about, and if I need to spell out a word I have to fingerspell it out in the air. Or if I’m trying to solve a math problem in my head, I would sometimes use my finger as a pen on my desk and solve it with my imagination. The assessment states that tactile learners use flashcards and arrange them into groups by relationship in order to absorb the…

According to Jolly and Gentaz (2014), “several studies that have compared handwriting skills between children with DCD and typical children have shown that those with DCD write faster and in larger letters” (as cited in Scordella et al., 2015, p.2). In a classroom, this information could help a teacher recognize, while also compare and contrast, their student’s work to observe/evaluate whether some students are behind. Teachers and parents should also be aware that “a lower deficit in the primary process of rapidly processing visual stimuli, could produce a cascade effect on the abilities of these children in handwriting” (Scordella et al., 2015, p. 2). Children struggling with handwriting can also have a mild motor dysfunction, which lowers visual reasoning abilities compared to children with developmentally appropriate motor quotient. This dysfunction can cause children to struggle with handwriting because they are struggling with visual reasoning, which can cause them to not notice whether they are writing to big, on a slant, etc.…
