Bryan and I were best friends. We did everything together, whether it was finishing up our Calculus homework five minutes before class started or sitting on my couch eating popcorn and watching the scariest movies we could find. Neither of us had many other friends, so it had been just the two of us all through high school. He was the first person I would go to with all of my problems, even the ones that girls would generally only share with other girls. Sometimes we would stay up for hours at a time talking about life and what it would be like to leave home and travel across the country. We even made a bucket list for after we graduated high school, and added to it every time we saw something on television that we wanted to do. He carried the list with him all the time just in case one of us thought of another idea to put on it. “So Liam asked me to dinner this Saturday, and I said yes,” I said to Bryan as I ripped my last piece of gum in half for us to share. He didn’t reply, but only responded with his usual eye roll that he did whenever I talked about boys, which was practically all the time. I’ve had a crush on Liam for months now, and I was so excited that he finally asked me out. I was, however, slightly annoyed that Bryan wouldn’t listen to me, but I paid no mind to it.
