Brutus is an ideal visionary, while Antony is a sly politician. Instead of emphasizing the ideals, he masterfully tailors his words and actions to his audiences’ desires. Antony is improvisational and conducts himself at each particular moment in order to gain the most advantage among the audience, whether it is an ally or enemy. Unlike Brutus, who prides himself on acting only from virtue and not his (or the crowd’s) personal concerns, Antony never separates his private affairs from his public actions. He thereby won influence over the crowd.
At the end of the play, Antony announces that Brutus was ‘the noblest Roman’ over his dead body. Ironically, with each incident of ‘nobility’ Brutus sought to promote, he took one step further towards his eventual doom.
Anthony explains of the dual identity of loyalty perfectly by himself .On the one hand, Anthony loyal to Caesar. After Caesar led the people to victory, he was overthrown. The inner disturbance the reader views is on one side Caesar is Brutus’s friend and he does not want him to die. The fondness he has for Caesar can be identified when the play states, “As Caesar loved me, I weep for him; as he was fortunate, I rejoice at it; as he was valiant I honor him.” () The reader can see the affection Brutus has for Caesar as he conveys the lines above at the funeral. On the other side Brutus considers Caesar is bad for rome and needs to be killed to save the democracy that his forefather created. This confusion can be seen in the play when it reads, “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.”…

Brutus was a noble man indeed, though he was corrupted by the conspirators to betray Caesar. Antony can relate with Cassius for being manipulative and weasel like. Can death be dignified? Is death the only thing that can be dignified? There are three tragedies that deal with the concept of dignified death and what makes it dignified. In the Greek tragedy Antigone by Sophocles, King Creon indirectly causes the deaths of many because he selfishly keeps a girl from honoring her dead brother. In the tragedy Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Brutus kills his best friend for the good of the majority.…

Brutus has erstwhile established himself as a man disposed to the will of the people and therefore deserving of their affection and praise for “he is an honorable man”. Antony’s, on the contrary, bears effective use of destroying ethos especially through the use of the ad-hominem offense which seeks to attack the opponent’s (i.e. Brutus’s) reputation, thus sullying it. In particular, Antony seeks to make the plebeians call into question the honor of Brutus by incessantly bringing up the rhetorical question of whether or not “Brutus is an honorable man” in spite of the acts of ruthlessness he committed against his own friend, Caesar; justifying such acts because “he (Caesar) was ambitious” (III,II,95-96). Such an insubstantial defense against an unanswered attack makes Brutus seem like charlatan, someone who manipulates the feelings of the people for his benefit, moreover, then tries to prove the legitimacy of their actions to the rabble when they are most susceptible to truths- at the beginning- when events are unclear. Ultimately, Brutus, due to this public shamming, is demonized by his own constituents, and now more than ever his entire validity is brought under the scrutiny of the crowd, allowing for Antony to pass off his ideas…

Antony states his direct purpose and asks for his audience’s attention outright, thus creating mutual respect through ethos by addressing his peers as equals. In addition, Antony appeals to the crowd’s emotions by mentioning Caesar’s will and how every citizen lies within in lines 132 and 133 of scene 2 in Act III. This employment of pathos riles up the audience and influences them to join his side, yet it also creates a leash with which Antony ties to the crowd to fulfill his agenda. Continuing, Antony leaves nothing to chance or opinion by focusing on the fact that he has no business in disproving Brutus’ words, but only to speak what he knows (III. ii. 100-101). Antony manipulates ethos in this instance to protect his integrity by addressing that his goal does not lie within feuding with another.…

Before everything goes down, Anton claims himself to be “no orator” compared to Brutus. Consequently we can see that through logical syllogisms, emotional antithesis, and a logical and ethical anaphoric style of speech, Antony has stolen the hearts and mind of the people of Rome. By looking over the facts his subtle approach and persuasion moved the plebeians. He called out Caesar’s own faults with syllogism to get into their heads. He claims his own ignorance with an antithesis to get the people to listen to him.…
