Bruno Chapter 1 Summary

This is Bruno. He is 6 years old and lives in a small town in Germany. Bruno lives with his mother, father and older sister named Brigitte.
Bruno’s father is a baker and his mother takes care of the house.
Bruno can’t wait for his sister Brigitte to get home from school. Every evening Bruno sits with his sister as she does her homework. He tries to learn as much as he can. Bruno’s favorite topic is geography as he learns about different places and cultures.
After school Bruno goes to his father’s bakery and begins to daydream about all the things he has learned.
Bruno is daydreaming again and imagines himself in Australia and meeting a new friend named Mia.
They walk around Sydney, Australia’s biggest city. Sydney Opera House is the big symbol

Jumpy sees the danger and with the help of Bruno and Mia run towards the dingoes screaming. All the screaming scare the pack of dingoes and forces them to run away.
Once again Bruno and Mia get in Jumpy’s pouch and go hopping around.
Next they find themselves at the Great Barrier Reef which is the world’s largest.
They decide to go snorkeling to see the fish up close. After putting their masks on they jump in the water and are blown away by all the colorful creatures under the water.
Brigitte calls Bruno but he is too deep in his daydream. Finally Brigitte decides to splash some water on him to get his attention. She reminds him of the football match the family has planned to watch together at the stadium.
On the way to the stadium, Brigitte shows Bruno pictures of famous places in Germany. First she shows pictures of Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.
Then there are castles on mountain tops.
At the stadium Bruno’s family is excited to watch the German national team play and win.
After the win Bruno and Brigitte happily stroll through town and head home.
The next morning Bruno is exhausted but cheerful from all the new experiences. As he heads to school he can’t wait to find new friends and learn about other
